about

Originally for my 'Exploring Timbre' Module at university, I changed it slightly and in the end was purely making it for this EP. It took me about 3 months to finish this monster of a song.

The original idea was to make a 15 minute piece which didn't change key, and only used the same four or more chords. This was going to prove tough in a conventional musical way so I decided to cheat and incorporate another method.

What I did was extract and use as many samples or bits of sounds that I could from two 20 minute recordings I took myself. A lot of these were only textural sounds, they didn't have a note to them, so they were fair game. One recording was of a bus ride home which runs through the entire piece, keep an ear out and you may be able to hear the sound of the bus starting up and moving. And the second is just of my house whilst everyone is making dinner, the fancy kick drum is taken from that! In fact, all of the percussion is.

This song is about time and the songs like this which, when you play them are nice to listen to and you don't really focus on them but they finish before you even realise, maybe you're reading articles on the internet or just busy doing something else? So you play it again and listen intently, and realise how much detail is in it. Slightly inspired by Brian Eno, that is.
